If you've already planned a special event menu and are looking to end the party on a sweet note, you can't go wrong with a selection of fresh Italian desserts. Although they'll complement any type of cuisine, the desserts will work especially well with an Italian-themed food spread.

When it comes to choosing the type of dessert to treat your guests with, you may have a hard time narrowing it down since there are so many delicious options. To help make your decision easier, use your favorite local Italian bakery as inspiration.

Depending on your event-planning budget and the size of your guest list, you can either make the sweet treats yourself or hire a bakery to do it for you. Italian desserts make appropriate desserts and even party favors for a wide range of special events, including birthday parties, holiday celebrations, bridal and baby showers, graduation and anniversary soirees, and wedding receptions.

Following are some Italian desserts and baked goods to consider for your next event:

1. Gelato Bar

Just like a typical ice cream sundae bar, a gelato bar is sure to please attendees of all ages. Although it's similar to ice cream, authentic Italian gelato contains more milk than cream and has no egg yolks in it. The result is a smooth and silky frozen dessert.

To create the bar, provide a variety of traditional gelato flavors, including chocolate, vanilla, pistachio, strawberry, apricot, and tiramisu. On a long, buffet-style table, set up the topping ingredients, which guests can use to create their own desserts.

Along with whipped cream and caramel and chocolate sauces, provide colorful sprinkles, especially if you're hosting a child's birthday party, crumbled cookie and brownie bits, a mix of roasted nuts, and dried fruits. Give attendees the choice of cups, sundae dishes, or cake and waffle cones.

2. Baked Goods and Coffee

Another tasty way to end the celebration is with coffee and a spread of Italian baked goods. Go with just basic hot coffee service, or have someone on hand to make Italian coffee drinks to order, such as cappuccinos and cafe espressos, lattes, and macchiatos.

Complement the iced and hot coffee selection with a variety of freshly baked Italian goods, including tiramisu, panettone, which is a sweet bread featuring dried fruits and nuts, and cannoli. Other traditional Italian pastries to consider are panna cotta, biscotti, torta ricotta, zuccotto, and torrone, which is a sweet white nougat enhanced with dried fruits and nuts.
